Cinco de Mayo 2009 beer review

For the Untamed Beer Cinco de Mayo celebration, I donned my sombrero and popped open three selections of Mexican beer. The first is Bahia (which is actually from Guatemala. I guess I should have looked a little more closely at the label.), followed by Bohemia Clasica and Dos Equis Amber.

In the video, I was entirely too kind to Bahia. It wasn’t until the beer slightly warmed that I realized how horrible this beer was. I had to put ice cubes in it to get it cold enough to stomach. It may be the worst beer I’ve ever had.

On the other hand, Bohemia Clasica may be one of the best Mexican lagers I’ve had. I enjoyed drinking it. Slight hop character, and it almost seemed a little peachy to me. Quite nice.

Dos Equis fell somewhere in between. It wasn’t nearly as bad as Bahia, but was still a bit metallic and skunky compared to the Bohemia.

Have a great Cinco de Mayo!

You should try Pacifico and Indio… they’re both excellent (and much, much better quality than Dos Equis!!!)

They had Pacifico at Whole Foods, where I bought these three selections, but I thought I’d try Bahia since I’ve never had it. I wish I had gotten Pacifico, but at least now I know never to get Bahia again.

Funny, Bahia got a D+ rating on BeerAdvocate. I haven’t seen too many beers that low. At least I know I’m not alone.
